Istanbul Bilgi University has developed the project “Digital EU: An E-Book for Primary and High Schools in Turkey”, which aims to foster a sense of European citizenship grounded in human rights and democracy, and to promote tolerance and respect for cultural diversity among young people. The project also addresses the growing need for IT-based learning materials for teachers and students.
The e-book created during the previous project covers topics such as an introduction to the European Union, key EU policies, and the construction of European citizenship. The accompanying teacher’s guide includes thematic modules and practical methodologies demonstrating how the e-book can be used effectively in the classroom. The overall goal of the project is to encourage young learners to engage with democratic values, human rights, and intercultural understanding.
Building on the lessons learned from the 2011–2012 project, the current initiative aims to further enhance the content, design, and pedagogical methodology of the e-book. An initial workshop will be organized with stakeholders involved in the previous project, particularly the teachers who used the e-book in their classrooms. This workshop will evaluate both the production process and the implementation of the material in the field.
To strengthen the pedagogical approach, the updated e-book will include a greater number of interactive and visual materials. In the previous project, a scribing-style animated video was produced and received highly positive feedback during the pilot phase:

Based on this positive reception, additional animated videos will be created, and an online educational game will be developed to increase engagement. A teacher training workshop will also be held to support the classroom pilot implementation.
The project will conclude with a final conference to present its impact and share the outcomes with the public.
