Lifelong Learning Jean Monnet Programme
“European Values at School” Teacher Workshop
The teacher workshops organized within the scope of the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning Jean Monnet Programme project “European Values at School,” carried out in collaboration with Istanbul Bilgi University European Institute and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, together with the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education, the Teachers Academy Foundation (ÖRAV) and the Beyoğlu Municipality Youth Center, were held at the santralistanbul Campus between 23–26 June 2014.
The four-day programme, designed for primary, secondary and vocational high school teachers, offered training on topics such as European values, human rights, diversity and awareness, effective communication, women’s and children’s rights in the EU and Turkey, tolerance, narratives of Europeanness in school curricula and learning leadership. Throughout the workshop, participants took part in hands-on activities, exchanged experiences and worked on practical classroom applications.
Participants emphasized that the workshop was highly beneficial in terms of both content and methodology, and highlighted the importance of increasing the number of such training programmes.
