Description
This multi-authored book presents a set of dialogues between geographical literacy (geo-literacy), critical heritage and education, their interrelations as well as possible implications. The book opens up a discussion about the shaping of geo-literacy through formal and informal sources, “tools” and procedures from an interdisciplinary spectrum which highlights the importance of acquiring cultural knowledge through the investigation of Critical Heritage and the notion of place. Moreover, it critically assesses the construction of geo-literate individuals able to contribute to the cultural heritage and society. In this light, its main themes revolve around the understanding of different concepts such as the sense of place, the formation of identity, socio-political approach of populism, the connection of places to the memory and the difficult past or present, the concept of the "European Other”, the role of language and literature in cultural heritage, etc.
Part of this book is an outcome of the CoHEREs’ project (Critical Heritages: performing and representing identities in Europe) which has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 693289.
