The Delegation of the European Union to Turkey

 

The relationship between Ankara and Brussels has been developing since the declaration of Turkey an accession candidate by the European Council at the Helsinki Summit in December 1999. This relationship and communication continued between the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey. There have been more than 150 European and Turk specialists that are working at the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey. 

The Delegation of the European Union to Turkey has four main missions in the scope of the Lisbon Treaty: 
* To prepare the report on Turkey's foreign policy and represent of the European Union at the diplomatic level,
* To monitor economic, financial and trade growths in Turkey, as well as the implementation of the Customs Union's provisions.
*to monitor progress toward achieving of Turkey's compliance with the EU acquis.
*The Delegation of the European Union to Turkey operates within the framework of the provisions of the Vienna Convention as a diplomatic representative.

The Delegation of the European Union to Turkey also contacts public authorities, political parties, business circles, academia and think tanks, civil society organisations and cultural operators to encourage the visibility and understanding of the European Union, its values and its activities in Turkey.
