International Women's Day
8 March

International Women’s Day occurred in 1909 in New York City for the honour of the "1908 garment workers" strike where women protested against the working conditions.
In 1910 The Socialist International held a meeting in Copenhagen for establishing a Women's Day, international in character, to honour the movement for women's rights. As a result of the Copenhagen meeting, the International Women's Day was celebrated for the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on 19 March 1911 with the attendance of more than one million women and men.
International Women's Day was forbidden to celebrate in some countries during the First and Second World Wars. As a part of
the movement, the Russian Women also protested and strike for “bread and peace” on the last Sunday in February which fell on 8th March on the Gregorian Calendar. As a result of this strike, the United Nations began celebrating the International Women’s Day on 8 March 1975.
Today, International Women's Day is a public holiday in some countries.
